Starting with Dr. Stella a volunteer in 1998 Little Hospice Hoima (LHH) was founded. Dr. Stella was then joined by Betty Kasigwa (she is the current Health Services Coordinator) and together they conducted palliative care services from a shop in the town centre.
Since then Little Hospice Hoima (LHH) has moved four times and currently they occupy the only purpose built Hospice outside Hoima town centre.
Presently LHH has a team of 18.
LHH were the initiators of the community volunteers program which has turned out successfully in all the other sister branches of Hospice.
Students on their electives and International volunteers travel to LHH for placements.
Little Hospice Hoima is called Little because of its small humble beginning. It will therefore continue to be called Little!
Hoima district has a population of over 400,000 people. It borders Lake Albert which recently had oil well found there. This discovery has led to the fast development to Hoima. Roads and prestige have changed the town rapidly.
LHH is meeting these growing needs and has adapted to the fast changes of Hoima town.
